LABOUR WOMEN URGED TO SUPPORT THEIR WOMEN’S FORUM!

Female members of the South Shields Labour Party have been urged to support their local Women’s Forum.

Joyce Welsh, the Chairperson explained that the Forum gave lady members an opportunity to discuss current topics of interest in a social and informal manner.

“The Forum meets monthly at the Labour Party headquarters in Westoe Road; we have had a number of speakers attend our meetings and we are planning a range of social activities to get women more involved in the running of the Constituency Party.

We have some fantastic female councillors with Tracey Dixon and Sylvia Spraggon in Whitburn and Marsden; Anne Walsh and Olive Punchion in Biddick and All Saints amongst others; we want to see more women coming to the fore as school governors, candidates and councillors.”

Joyce Welsh, who is also a Member of the Board of South Tyneside Homes became Chairperson of the Forum in January 2008 works closely with Womens Officer Joan Meeks.

Any female members of the South Shields Labour Party who want to get involved in the Forum should contact Joan Meeks on 455 7383.
