WOMEN
URGED TO
SUPPORT
THEIR
WOMEN’S
FORUM!
Female
members
of the
South
Shields
Labour
Party
have
been
urged to
support
their
local
Women’s
Forum.
Joyce
Welsh,
the
Chairperson
explained
that the
Forum
gave
lady
members
an
opportunity
to
discuss
current
topics
of
interest
in a
social
and
informal
manner.
“The
Forum
meets
monthly
at the
Labour
Party
headquarters
in
Westoe
Road; we
have had
a number
of
speakers
attend
our
meetings
and we
are
planning
a range
of
social
activities
to get
women
more
involved
in the
running
of the
Constituency
Party.
We have
some
fantastic
female
councillors
with
Tracey
Dixon
and
Sylvia
Spraggon
in
Whitburn
and
Marsden;
Anne
Walsh
and
Olive
Punchion
in
Biddick
and All
Saints
amongst
others;
we want
to see
more
women
coming
to the
fore as
school
governors,
candidates
and
councillors.”
Joyce
Welsh,
who is
also a
Member
of the
Board of
South
Tyneside
Homes
became
Chairperson
of the
Forum in
January
2008
works
closely
with
Womens
Officer
Joan
Meeks.
